ChatGPT update: What’s changed in search, WhatsApp, and answers
ChatGPT now works better on WhatsApp and adds new tools for search and citations.

OpenAI has rolled out a set of updates to ChatGPT that improve how people use the tool day-to-day. Some of the features are new, while others are upgrades to things already in place.
The biggest update overall is about shopping — ChatGPT can now help users find and explore products using a visual browser. That part of the update is more detailed and covered in this article if you want the full breakdown.
This post focuses on three smaller but useful changes: WhatsApp access, search suggestions, and better citations.
Short on time?
Here’s what changed:
- WhatsApp replies are faster and easier to access
- Autocomplete now shows trending questions
- Sources are easier to read and verify

ChatGPT is now easier to use in WhatsApp
People can now talk to ChatGPT in WhatsApp by messaging 1-800-ChatGPT (or using this link). This feature is not new, but OpenAI made it faster and more available. The chatbot gives answers in real time, including live sports updates like IPL cricket scores. No browser or app login needed.
This move means users can get information while chatting, the same way they would text a friend or coworker.
Search now shows trending and autocomplete
When users type a question in ChatGPT, they will now see a short list of trending searches and autocomplete tips.
This works like Google Suggest, but inside the chatbot. It helps people get started faster, even if they are not sure what to ask.
Citations now include source highlights

When ChatGPT gives facts, it now shows multiple links to sources. There is also a new highlight view that shows which part of the answer each link supports. This change helps users check information more clearly and see where the data came from.
What this means for marketers
- People are searching differently — they are using chat tools to ask real questions. Marketers need to think about how content can show up in this flow.
- Messaging is becoming the new help desk — if a customer can ask ChatGPT something in WhatsApp, they may expect the same from your brand.
- Clear, source-backed content matters more — citation tools raise the bar for how information is judged.
These are small shifts, but they show how AI tools are growing into everyday channels.
