Canva is known as a design platform. Now it’s also becoming a tool for building apps, editing data, and working with content—all in one place.

At its Canva Create 2025 event, the company launched a set of AI tools that help users create code, work with spreadsheets, and manage content without needing other software.

This article looks at Canva’s new AI features, how they work, and what they mean for marketing and content teams. It also looks at how other platforms are moving in a similar direction by adding AI to their tools.

Short on time?

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Canva now includes AI for spreadsheets, code, and photo editing.
  • Marketers can plan and launch campaigns fully inside Canva.
  • AI tools work through simple prompts—no coding needed.
  • Other platforms like Microsoft and Adobe are doing the same.

What Canva just launched

Canva now lets users work on different formats—like slides, spreadsheets, websites, and whiteboards—in one place. This update is called Visual Suite 2.0. It also comes with new AI tools:

Canva Sheets is a new spreadsheet tool. It includes:

  • “Magic Insights” to find trends in your data
  • “Magic Charts” to build visuals automatically
  • “Magic Formulas” to generate functions using a text prompt
  • Live data connections from tools like Google Analytics and HubSpot

Canva Code helps users create simple apps, like calculators or quizzes, by writing a prompt. The AI generates the app automatically. You can share the app with a link or use it inside other Canva content.

Magic Studio at Scale helps teams work faster. It can:

  • Fill in missing text using AI
  • Translate content into different languages
  • Resize assets across channels in bulk

Photo editing tools also got an update. You can now remove, move, or replace items in an image using a click. You can also generate new backgrounds that match the photo.

These features are added to Canva’s earlier tools like Magic Write (for writing text), Magic Design (for layout ideas), and AI voiceovers for videos.

What marketers can do with these tools

Marketing teams can use these new tools to manage campaigns more quickly, with less switching between platforms.

  1. Create visual reports from live data
Canva Sheets lets you bring in live data, turn it into charts, and drag those into pitch decks or social media assets.
  2. Build simple tools for your audience
With Canva Code, you can prompt AI to build a pricing calculator or quiz without hiring a developer.
  3. Make multiple versions of content at once
Magic Studio at Scale can create many variations of a design using different names, regions, or copy.
  4. Edit photos directly inside Canva
There’s no need to open a separate image editor. You can adjust backgrounds, change object positions, or tweak colors in one place.

How Canva compares to other platforms

Canva is not alone in adding AI. Other tools are doing this too:

  • Microsoft 365 Copilot helps write emails, summarize documents, and analyze spreadsheets.
  • Google Gemini helps with writing, summarizing, and data entry inside Google Docs and Sheets.
  • Adobe Firefly lets users generate and edit images inside Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Notion AI can answer questions and summarize meeting notes.

What’s different about Canva is how everything works in one workspace. You can design, edit, analyze data, and build simple apps all inside the same tab. It’s focused on marketing, education, and team collaboration—without needing advanced training or tech knowledge.

More platforms are adding AI too

Canva’s update is part of a bigger trend. Many tools are adding AI to help users work faster:

  • Figma is testing AI that helps build design systems.
  • Slack uses AI to summarize messages and find answers.
  • Zoom adds AI for writing meeting summaries and pulling out action items.

This trend means fewer steps for teams. You can write content, build tools, and run reports with fewer tools and fewer delays.

What this means for marketers

Marketing teams often use many tools to build a campaign—spreadsheets, slides, photo editors, content systems, and web builders. Canva is now offering a single place to do all that with AI support.

These new tools won’t replace people. But they can save time and help teams focus on campaign strategy, creative ideas, and testing results. The AI handles some of the hard parts so teams can focus on what matters.
